PicoSure works in a similar way to the Q-Switched lasers, we have been offering treatment using Q-Switched lasers for many years and treat up to 130 a week with them. Q-Switched lasers are considered the gold standard when it comes to removing unwanted tattoos.

Laser treatments have minimal side effects when it comes to the removal of tattoos, they use thermal energy to heat up ink particles in the unwanted tattoo. Once the ink particles have been broken down by the laser they can be safely removed from the body.

Introducing PicoSure. PicoSure uses ultra-short pulses of laser light, the pulses that PicoSure machines create are one trillionth of a second in length, 100 times shorter than nanosecond technology. The shorter pulses can hit the ink particles with far greater pressure than Q-Switched and similar tattoo removal lasers. PicoSure allows City Tattoo Removal to use less energy compared with Q-switch lasers, the result of this is even fewer complications of scarring and hypopigmentation. With PicoSure there is no heating of the skin this provides less pain than previous laser machines, improved recovery and fewer complications with the skin that surrounds the treated area.

How Does PicoSure Work?

The ultra-short pulses break the ink into tiny dust-like particles. These ink particles are smaller than Q-Switched lasers can create making them easier and quicker for the patients immune system to remove. The ink particles being easier for the body to remove can mean better clearance of the tattoo and that less overall treatmentsare required.

We can even use PicoSure to remove recalcitrant tattoos, recalcitrant tattoos are tattoos that still have clinically apparent pigment after 10 or more previous laser treatment sessions, these tattoos have stopped fading in response to treatment with other lasers. Trials of the PicoSure resulted in more than 80% overall tattoo removal, even on the most difficult colours to remove (green and blue ink) PicoSure achieved 94% clearance of the pigment.
